Nashville Tennessee, or Music City, is well known as "The Country Music Capital of the World", but its roots in Music spread much wider. In the small side street bars, pubs, and cafes you can always catch a local or traveling artist or group performing on small, but more intimate stages. A wide range of acts performing, most likely, material written or co written by themselves, a venues like, Mercy Lounge, a second-story standing room venue that holds 500 people, off Eighth Avenue South, in an old converted warehouse, Just below on the buildings first floor is a larger venue, Cannery Ballroom, with standing room for 1,000. Just miles away you can catch some of Nashville's best studio performers at Third & Lindsley, on 3rd Ave, with local, regional and even national singer-songwriters, and Performing acts. This is also the place for blues fans to catch a live performance any night of the week. If its all local your looking for, then look no furthur than The 5 Spot, on Forrest Ave., known by patrons as "THE spot for live music". Though they may play host to the occasional touring act, its mostly the local acts that play here, always bringing in the fans. Down Elliston Pl., sits Exit/In, a venue with a quarter-century history of hosting music legends from all genres. Just across the street you will find a more laid back spot, The End, a run-down, one-room building down Elliston Pl. The 200-capacity venue usually host local bands. With a recently finished mural of the late Michael Jackson on display, it sets the mood for a great place to hang out with friends, and easily make new ones. Looking for a more hardcore experience? Head to Muse, on 4th Ave. S., the place for the rap/punk/political scene, also housing Spat! Records and Kung Fu Coffee House. So if country is not your scene, you can still find your place in Nashville. After all, country is our specialty.
